Diablo 4 fans cracked a smelly puzzle to summon a secret fishing boss

Land the kill and you will walk away with a chest piece that doubles your fishing yield.

Season 15 added a lot of new (and some yet undiscovered) secrets to Diablo 4. One in particular is not a Diablo 1, 2, or 3 secret, but a new addition to the Fishing system that came with Lord of Hatred. The game team added Mefishto, a secret boss found by the community after solving the puzzle.

How to Fight Mefishto

You will need a bit of patience to accomplish all the steps. This is not about luck, but rather time.

Here are the steps to trigger the fight:

  1. Fish 10 Legendary or Unique fish. You can mix them up, but take into account that Mythic fish do not count.

  2. Feed them to the Horadric Cube in Temis and use the Amalgamation recipe to transform them into another consumable.

  3. Get the Torn Net from the Cube. A message then triggers a character buff: "You emit a foul, hateful stench."

That smell is the summon. Head out to the Open World and keep fishing. Mefishto spawns into the world rather than a specific location. You can try the coastline near Scosglen's Marowen pier. It is also a good spot for Legendary and Unique fish.

Fish as a Group

Mefishto is not guaranteed to bite fast. Solo anglers reported they had to wait over an hour before the boss appeared, and we know continuous fishing can be a little boring.

However, fishing as a full group of four, with each player having looted their own Torn Net, shows a significant improvement in spawn time. This reportedly cuts down the fishing time to roughly 30 minutes on average.

There is also a recommended spot to fish at in Skovos.

Loot the Godly Plate of the Whale

But what is the reward of such an achievement? Mefishto can drop the Godly Plate of the Whale, a Unique Chest. This item doubles your fishing yield.

It will not help you clear your Pit runs faster, but for anyone chasing Iconic Mythics or materials through fishing, it could be a nice quality-of-life upgrade. It can also help players get the secret fishing Murloc pet (see above)!
