WoW Forever is separating solo players and premades in Battlegrounds
Blizzard is also planning a separate queue for small groups, but the exact player limit is not set yet.

Battlegrounds are coming to WoW: Forever, and even if we do not have that much information about them, the developers shared some very cool news about it in the latest Podcast.
During episode 4 of the WoW: Forever podcast, Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield revealed a few interesting changes made to Matchmaking for the release of the game and future updates.
Solo Queues
Yes, if you play alone and you want to join some Battlegrounds, you will not be matched against premade groups.
This is pretty big news because it is something that is often called out in many games. A lot of players are calling it the "best news of the week". Getting rolled over by a huge premade party was never something fun, so knowing that this will not happen in Forever is already making players less reluctant to try PvP.
The developers also confirmed that they want to integrate an option for smaller groups as well. Greenfield mentioned groups of 2 to 3 players, but they have not decided yet on the exact size of these smaller groups.
So if you only want to group up with your partner and do some Battlegrounds, it will not match you against full premades either.
Premade Matchmaking
This means that premade groups will technically only face full premade groups. So no more rolling over the little solo players!
This is not the first time Blizzard has tried to change how matchmaking works. During Phase Two of Season of Discovery, they made similar changes to matchmaking, but it caused a pretty big waiting time issue. And if queue times became too long, the matchmaking restrictions would be ignored, and you could still land against a full premade party.
Having solo matchmaking is definitely good, but longer queue times are a risk. We will have to wait and see exactly how they plan on taking care of that problem.
