Blizzard warns WoW carry guilds against accepting gold from middlemen

Recent RMT actions also put guilds at risk of losing gold received through intermediaries.

This is not a direct post for World of Warcraft Forever, but with the Raids releasing at the beginning of December, it is a good moment to use this official post for Retail and Classic, and remind players that the same will probably take effect once the Raids open in Forever.

If you want a raid carry, you cannot use a third-party provider (RTM). Carries are fine, as long as you transfer gold from the player buying the carry to the player providing it.

Blizzard has already taken action against World of Warcraft accounts involved in real-money trading (RMT), including players who bought illicit gold and had it delivered directly to someone providing a service, such as a raid carry.

This is valid for both Retail and Classic, and also Forever. Players often use RTM trading for all kinds of activities that are not necessarily raids. So if you see messages in the in-game chat selling Gold, items, or dungeon carries against real money, ignore them and report the player if possible.

Blizzard Warns Guilds Accepting Gold Through Intermediaries

The warning also extends to guilds selling raid carries. Even if a guild is not directly involved in buying gold with real money, accepting payment that comes from an intermediary can put all the members at risk of losing that gold.

Blizzard's advice is straightforward:

The player buying a carry or another service should transfer the gold directly to the player providing it. No third party should handle the payment.

If you do not want to get accidentally banned or lose your hard-earned gold, be careful when it comes to transactions for services you provide in-game.

And especially once the Raids are released in Forever. It can be tempting to directly buy a raid carry to progress faster, but if you do so, make sure you only transfer your own gold to the other player.

We’ve recently completed a round of actions taken against accounts that were found to have participated in spending real money on gold provided by a third party (RMT). Some of the accounts actioned purchased the illicit gold and had the seller deliver it to a different player who provided a service to the purchaser, such as a raid carry.

Please be reminded that gold received from an intermediate player has an extremely high likelihood of being illicit gold that was part of an RMT. To avoid actions such as account suspension and the removal of illicit gold, players should always directly transfer gold from the player buying the carry (or other activity) to the player providing the carry.

Guilds that provide carries to players, who pay for them with gold that comes from an intermediate, are at risk of seeing that gold removed by Blizzard.

Thank you very much!
