Overwatch adds EVE Protocol skins and a new Mythic Roadhog in Season 5
The midseason patch also includes returning Loot Box events and new rewards.
Something wicked broke loose at the beginning of Season 5 and now it's time to find out where all that trouble leads.
Overwatch's Season 5 midseason update ends the Reign of Talon story with a final battle between Doomfist and Overwatch, as he takes over once again, and Vendetta is carried away by the Overwatch team.
But that does not mean there will not be any content for the rest of the season.
This patch comes with the EVE Protocol collaboration, a...deadly... Roadhog mythic skin, and the return of Junkrat digging up loot boxes for you.
It All Comes Down to This
Over the past year, a lot has happened in Overwatch. If you are following the lore, we went from Vendetta taking over Talon and Doomfist supposedly dead, to an incredible return from the same guy taking back his throne, Doctrine emerging from Grimsvötn, and Vendetta being taken away by Overwatch.
And now, it all comes to an end with Taking Reign.
This is a 5-week event with a new event Battle Pass and 24 Tiers of rewards. It will run from November 3 to December 7.
The pass works exactly like any other Battle Pass. There are free tiers and paid ones. The entire pass costs 1000 Overwatch Coins. You can still get some cool rewards in the free tiers, such as an Epic Sigma skin recolor, but the paid track rewards a Legendary Resurgence Doomfist, Vendetta's new legendary Weapon, and more.
And do not worry, if you purchase the Pass, you do not have to rush to complete it. It will stay available during Season 6, so you can still finish it even after the event itself ends.
Junkrats Can Dig It Up
Junkrats is digging up Loot Boxes again, and Venture decided to join in as well. Nothing will keep these two on the surface when loot is involved.
Excavation Initiative returns from November 3 to December 7, and Junkrat's Loot Hunt returns November 20-23.
You can get extra Loot Boxes, Epic Loot Boxes, and even a Legendary Loot Box from Venture.
And for Junkrats, it turns out that this time, there is no limit. So you can complete 5 games over and over and over again, until you finish all the challenges in one go. Junkrat’s Loot Hunt also comes with double XP during that weekend.
The EVE Protocol
The Stellar Blade collaboration is finally here.
You can now get some really cool and futuristic cosmetics for some heroes thanks to the EVE Protocol event.

These skins will be available in the shop until November 17. You also get a small event with a few challenges for additional free banners.
Roadhog Has Always Had an Appetite
Roadhog is getting his first Mythic skin. Yes, Roadhog.
Aaron Keller said that releasing two hero Mythics per season means the team can choose one hero expected to sell well and another that has not had a Mythic or has received fewer skins.
So this is how we ended up with a Mythic Necrotic Knight Roadhog. And it looks pretty nice.
Cursed with an endless hunger for souls, this corrupted knight tears essence from his victims and carries it with him, growing stronger even as the curse consuming him grows worse. Very healthy relationship with food. No notes.
As always, the Mythic skin comes with 4 levels of customization:
Level 1: Rise as the Necrotic Knight in Roadhog's base Mythic form, with custom effects worthy of the curse.
Level 2: Put a new face on death with Skull, Knight, and Plague Doctor-inspired helmet options.
Level 3: Change the complexion of your corruption with additional color palettes.
Level 4: Let the curse loose with ethereal skulls, claws, spectral flames, smoke, and transformative ability effects.
So you definitely have a lot to do until the season ends. OWCS's world finals will also take place in December, with the Cheer Rally running from December 3 to December 7 for even more rewards, and Drives will return during that same time as well.
