Diablo 5 Demon Hunter Guide, Everything Confirmed So Far

The Demon Hunter is back! Blizzard confirmed it at BlizzCon 2026 as one of the first three classes announced for Diablo 5 (or Diablo V, as Blizzard writes it), next to the returning Monk and the completely new Plague Knight. And yes, Demon Hunter still carries the twin crossbows that made it a Diablo 3 favorite.

Before you go looking for skill trees, nothing of the sort is known yet. Blizzard has not named a single Demon Hunter skill, resource, or passive yet. What we have is the official class description, a few words from the game director, and one concept sketch. That is still enough to get a good feel for the class, so we collected all of it here, and this page grows as Blizzard shares more.

Twin Crossbows, Shadow Strikes and Big Leaps

Blizzard's official BlizzCon recap describes the Demon Hunter hunting Hell's forces with twin crossbows, attacking from the shadows and leaping around the fight to finish off its prey. So we know the weapons, the ambush angle, and the mobility.

During his talk on the BlizzCon stage, Senior Game Director Joe Shely focused on the mobility part, where he described the class as one that leaps through the air and pins demons against walls. Then he asked the crowd, "How could we not bring the Demon Hunter back?"

The reveal post also includes a black-and-white concept sketch of a hooded hunter in a helmet and scarf, crossbow in hand. The wall-pinning line is the only hint at a specific mechanic, and it is not a confirmed skill. It sounds like a knockback or impale effect, but that is our guess, not Blizzard's.

Skills and Builds Are Still Unknown

Pretty much everything a build guide needs. Blizzard has not shared:

  • Any skill, passive, or skill tree

  • The class resource (Hatred and Discipline are Diablo 3 mechanics, not confirmed for Diablo 5)

  • If traps, Sentry turrets, or a pet companion return

  • Gender options, appearance, or customization

  • How the class fits the story, where you play as the Heir to Westmarch

Blizzard plans regular development updates starting in 2027, with more on class combat, progression, and builds. Until then, any "Diablo 5 Demon Hunter build" you see online is just guesswork, as nothing is officially known.

How the Demon Hunter Played in Diablo 3

None of this is confirmed for Diablo 5, but it is the best reference for what the class has been. In Diablo 3, the Demon Hunter had two resources. Hatred was used for attacks, and Discipline for defensive and movement skills like Vault and Smoke Screen.

In Diablo 3, Demon Hunters have to balance Hatred for attacks with Discipline for defensive and tactical abilities.

It mixed quick crossbow and bow skills like Multishot and Strafe with traps, Sentry turrets, and a Companion pet. It was also famously fragile, which is why good Demon Hunter players never stood still for long.

Shely has described the Diablo 5 version as a new take that keeps the familiar parts, so returning players who pick this class will likely feel at home right away. How much of the old kit survives is the big open question.

Should You Play Demon Hunter in Diablo 5?

If you like keeping your distance, kiting packs, playing at range, and never standing still, this is your class. Diablo 4 never had a Demon Hunter, so ranged Rogue players are probably the closest match, especially the crossbow fans.

If you would rather stand in the middle of a pack and take the hits, the heavily armored Plague Knight is likely the better fit. That is our read of how Blizzard describes the two classes, not a confirmed role split.

How Diablo 5 Loot Could Change the Demon Hunter

Blizzard did share a lot about items, and some of it might be quite important for a class with a crossbow in each hand. Officially:

  • Itemization takes its inspiration from Diablo 2

  • Blizzard is experimenting with stat requirements on gear

  • Bigger items take up more inventory space again

  • Gear-based sets return

  • Diablo 2-style Runes and Runewords are coming, with crafting inspired by Lord of Hatred

Stat requirements are still an experiment, not a final system. If they stay, two crossbows could mean meeting requirements for both hands, and sets could bring back the build-defining gear Demon Hunters loved in Diablo 3. Again, that part is our speculation.
