Diablo 5 Plague Knight Guide, Everything Confirmed So Far

Diablo 5's first completely new class is the Plague Knight, and it might be the most interesting reveal of the whole BlizzCon 2026 panel. What we know so far is that this class is a heavily armored knight that fights with disease, spreads it across the battlefield, and then consumes it for power.
It is also the class with the least history to go on. No Plague Knight skill, resource, or weapon has been named yet, and there is no gameplay footage. However, there is still a bit of info we can already cover, so here is everything Blizzard has said, and what the class could look like based on it. This page grows as Blizzard shares more.

Heavy Armor, Plague and a Surprisingly Noble Side
Blizzard's official recap article describes the Plague Knight as "the embodiment of walking death," a class that roams the battlefield spreading disease and pestilence before consuming it for power.
During his time on the BlizzCon stage, Senior Game Director Joe Shely called it a heavily armored class and "the first new class" joining Diablo 5. That wording means at least one more (completely!) new class is planned, though Blizzard has not said how many.
Senior Art Director John Mueller added the knight side of the name. In his words, the class uses disease, plague, and contagion as weapons, but as knights there is a noble side to their purpose, and they absorb and channel that power to slay demons. So nothing Blizzard said sounds like the Plague Knight serves Diablo. It just seems as though this class simply takes the sickness of a fallen world and turns it on Hell.
How the Plague Knight Could Play
This part is our read, not Blizzard's. "Spread, then consume" sounds like a two-step loop. Infect a pack, keep the disease moving between enemies, then cash it in for something big.
That "something" could be a burst of damage, a heal, a defensive buff, or a resource. Blizzard has not said what consuming disease does or how it works. Combine it with heavy armor, and the Plague Knight reads like a frontline class that wants to stand in the middle of the pack while everything around it rots.

That would be new territory for Diablo. Poison and disease builds have mostly lived on casters before, like the Diablo 2 Necromancer with Poison Nova or the Diablo 3 Witch Doctor, etc. A plate-armored knight carrying the plague into melee is a very different style from what we all know.
Plague Knight Weapons and Skills Are Unconfirmed
Most details about the Plague Knight are still a mystery. Blizzard has not shared:
Any weapon. The concept sketch shows a large sword, but no weapon has been confirmed
Any skill, passive, skill tree, or resource
What "consuming" disease does mechanically
If the class can tank or heal itself, or how tough heavy armor makes it
Gender options, appearance, or customization
How the class fits the story, where you play as the Heir to Westmarch
The good news is that Blizzard plans regular development updates starting in 2027, with more on class combat, progression, and builds.
Should You Play Plague Knight in Diablo 5?
If you like slow, heavy melee, damage over time, and watching debuffs do the work, this is likely a class you would enjoy. If your favorite Diablo 4 builds were the tanky, in-your-face ones, the Plague Knight is one you should try.
If you prefer staying at range and dodging everything, the Demon Hunter looks like the better fit. If you want fast melee instead of heavy melee, check the Monk. That is our read of the descriptions, not a confirmed role split.
How Diablo 5 Loot Could Affect the Plague Knight
Blizzard's item plans could suit a heavy armor class nicely. Officially, we know that:
Itemization takes its inspiration from Diablo 2
Blizzard is experimenting with stat requirements on gear
Bigger items take up more inventory space again
Gear-based sets return
Diablo 2-style Runes and Runewords are coming, with crafting inspired by Lord of Hatred
In Diablo 2, the heaviest armor needed a lot of Strength to wear. If stat requirements come back in a similar way, a plate-wearing class would be the one built around meeting them. Stat requirements are still an experiment, though, and not a final system, so all of this is speculation.
