Overwatch players are warming up to Sombra's surprising Support rework

Her new kit combines healing, damage, and a powerful debuff that can turn team fights around.

Sombra has always been one of those Overwatch heroes who can be incredibly annoying to play against. Between her invisibility, ability-disabling Hack, and constant flanking, she was a nightmare for plenty of players, and almost an insta-ban in all competitive matches.

So, What Does Sombra Do Now?

The biggest change is that Hack and Virus are gone, and instead of focusing on disabling enemies and picking off isolated targets, she can now heal teammates and weaken enemies.

Her new ability, Hotfix, lets her apply a healing effect to an ally. It restores 65 health immediately, then heals for 25 health per second, up to 175 total healing. She has two charges, meaning she can prepare teammates for an engagement or help keep them alive.

Cyberspace Is Crazy

She has another new ability called Cyberspace that creates an area that damages enemies and heals allies at the same time. That alone makes it useful in a team fight, but there is another effect that makes it even more powerful! Enemies caught inside are Weakened, reducing their damage and healing output by 50%. Yes, it is insane, and you can definitely feel it when you step inside of it.

Sombra is not just adding healing to the team, but she is actively making it harder for the enemy to win the fight. Again.

She Can Still Play Aggressively

Despite moving to Support, Sombra has not lost everything that made her so good. She still has her Machine Pistol, Stealth, Translocator, and EMP, so she can move around the battlefield, find useful angles, and deal damage at the same time as supporting her team. Her gun does less damage per projectile but has improved accuracy and effective range. Her Translocator has a shorter range and longer cooldown.

Her new passive, Conspirator, also reveals enemies whose ultimate is fully charged. That gives her team valuable information and can help them prepare for an incoming ultimate.

Is the Rework Really Better?

Hard to say what Sombra's place in the meta is right now, since the rework just released, but I almost want to say yes, because she still feels extremely fun to play, kept her good mobility, and the lower damage has been replaced by valuable utility for the entire team. It is really a win-win situation.

So if you were hesitating to play her now, I can only recommend you try her out. She is really fun, and you can still play really aggressively with her and surprise players from behind.
