Diablo 4 players are selling their Stone of Jordans, just in case

Season 15 is full of Diablo 2 callbacks, so maybe this old trick made a comeback as well.

Diablo holding two Stones of Jordan items from Diablo 4

Diablo 4 Season 15 has brought back plenty of classic Diablo nostalgia, and this sent everyone down a rabbit hole of "what else can we find out?" People are now wondering if one of Diablo 2's most iconic secrets could have been added too.

If you do not know what we are talking about, well, it is pretty simple. As you know it, Legacy Uniques have been added to the game this season, and one of those was part of a duplication problem in Diablo 2 that eventually led to a Diablo boss fight. And now people are wondering if they should sell their extra Stone of Jordans to a vendor. Just in case.

Diablo 2 and the Stone of Jordan Problem

In Diablo 2, selling enough Stone of Jordans to vendors could eventually trigger Diablo Clone, a powerful version of Diablo that would replace the next Super Unique monster spawned in the game.

The mechanic was originally introduced during Diablo 2's era of rampant duplicated Stone of Jordans, which had become a currency at this point. Selling them to vendors helped remove those duplicated items from the economy, and it gave us a reason to get rid of our extras.

It eventually became one of Diablo 2's most memorable community events, with the message "Diablo Walks the Earth" announcing that the Diablo Clone had been unleashed.

Now players are wondering if Diablo 4 could have something similar hidden away.

Is the Diablo Clone Hiding in Diablo 4?

There is no confirmation that selling Stone of Jordans does anything special in Diablo 4.

The theory is purely coming from the community, but Season 15 is probably the only time it will feel remotely plausible. The season is full of callbacks to older Diablo games, from Legacy Uniques and Waking Nightmares to the new Diablo 2 Runewords and Whimsical moo-secrets.

Stone of Jordan is one of the Legacy Uniques returning in Season 15, and that is what pushed players to start wondering if its old secret could have returned with it.

On Reddit, players basically asked everyone to start selling their spare copies to vendors just in case. Of course, do not sell any Unique with good stats that you could use on a build, just because of a Reddit theory. But if you happen to drop the item way too many times, and you have a lot of useless copies, it does not cost anything to throw some towards a vendor

There is also some confusion around reports of Diablo appearing during Helltides. That is not evidence of a Diablo Clone, as Season 15 already has a mechanic that can summon an Echo of Diablo through the Diablo Soul Splinter.

So far, there is no proof that selling Stone of Jordans triggers anything. But if a mysterious "Diablo Walks the Earth" message suddenly appears, at least you know why.
