When Diablo 4 Season 15 Starts
Diablo 4 Season 15 launches on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. This means there is only a short gap between the end of BlizzCon and the actual start of the new season. Season 14 ends when Season 15 begins, with characters and eligible items moving to the Eternal realm as usual.
Your Season 14 War Plans reputation also carries over to Eternal on September 15 and adds onto any matching Eternal character's progress. For Hardcore, only living characters transfer their points.
We will add Blizzard’s confirmed launch time and regional conversions here as soon as they are published.

How the Prime Evil Questline Works
The Season of Hell's Legacy is themed around Diablo's 30th anniversary and a fight for the very soul of Sanctuary. The legendary Horadrim Deckard Cain has returned with a warning about three dark wanderers who have come back, each dragging a Prime Evil behind them. The seasonal questline sends you into their nightmares to defeat echoes of Diablo beneath Tristram Cathedral, Baal at the Arreat Summit, and Mephisto (once again) in the Durance of Hate, where you have to survive and claim a Splinter of Evil from each.
You can only bear one Prime Evil Splinter at a time, which turns you into a dark wanderer yourself. While you carry the Splinter, you will gain an Iconic Power that is linked to the Evil it inhibits and will erupt during combat: Fire for Diablo, Cold for Baal, and Physical for Mephisto. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and so, of course, there is a trade-off, which is that the respective Prime Evils hunt you back, so you take more of the related damage in return.
Each Splinter has its own reputation track, with eight activity modifiers and six upgrades to its Iconic Power, unlocked through War Plans. The one you carry affects different parts of Diablo 4's endgame:
Diablo's Splinter of Terror changes Helltide and Infernal Hordes
Baal's Splinter of Destruction changes the Undercity and Lair Bosses
Mephisto's Splinter of Hatred changes the Pit and Nightmare Dungeons
All three change the Tree of Whispers
To switch paths, you have to pick up a different Splinter from the largest Waking Nightmares.
The Splinters of Evil are questline rewards and are separate from the socketable Soul Splinter gems of Season 15, even though the names are similar!
How Soul Splinters Work
Soul Splinters are very different from the Splinters of Evil. They are socketable items for rings and amulets, and each one gives you Physical or Elemental Resistance, as well as a powerful effect.

However, there is always a catch, because every Soul Splinter also comes with a drawback. This means that choosing one is more than simply adding free damage to your character. You need a build that can even out the cost, so that the drawback of a Soul Splinter does not overpower the benefit you would get from it for your chosen build.
Soul Splinters drop in Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique quality, and you can equip up to three at once across your jewelry slots. To upgrade one, use the Amalgamation recipe in the Horadric Cube, which combines Splinters of the same type and rarity into the next rarity up.
Soul Splinter | Main Bonus | Negative Effect |
|---|---|---|
Splinter of Anguish (Andariel) | Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed | Higher Primary Resource costs |
Splinter of Sin (Azmodan) | More Maximum Health | Less Maximum Primary Resource |
Splinter of Lies (Belial) | More experience, gold, and crafting materials | You are always Weakened and Vulnerable |
Splinter of the Black Soulstone | Stacking damage after kills | Each stack also increases damage taken |
Splinter of Pain (Duriel) | Damage Reduction | Lower Movement Speed |
Splinter of the Mother (Lilith) | Unhindered movement and Vulnerable through contact | You are stunned after touching enough enemies |
Splinter of Hellfire (Na-Krul) | A large damage bonus | You lose all Critical Strike Chance |
Splinter of Damnation (Skarn) | Elite kills increase Monster Power | Stronger enemies come with the bonus |
The right choice depends on what your setup can give up. For example, the Splinter of Hellfire looks powerful for a setup that does not need Critical Strike Chance, but it is a bad fit for anything built around critical hits. The Splinter of Pain is much safer for players trying to grind through difficult content, although losing Movement Speed will feel much worse during farming.
The specific bonuses and drawbacks above were gathered during PTR sessions, so the exact values are based on PTR data until we finish checking them against the 3.2.1 launch notes.

The Legacy Uniques Coming to Diablo 4
Season 15 adds a few familiar uniques from Diablo, Diablo 2, and Diablo 3 into Diablo 4. These are permanent additions to the game, which means it is not simply loot that disappears when the season ends.
Legacy Unique | Slot | Classes |
|---|---|---|
Leoric's Crown | Helm | All classes |
Nemesis Bracers | Gloves | All classes |
Stone of Jordan | Ring | All classes |
Squirt's Blouse | Chest | All classes |
Arioc's Needle | Two-handed Polearm | Barbarian, Druid, Spiritborn |
Henri's Perquisition | Offhand Focus | Sorcerer, Necromancer, Warlock |
In-Geom | One-handed Sword | Barbarian, Druid, Rogue, Necromancer, Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock |
The Furnace | Two-handed Mace | Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock |
Messerschmidt's Reaver | Two-handed Axe | Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock |
Most of the names and old identities stay as is, but the Diablo 4 versions are changed to fit the current item system. Leoric's Crown, for example, counts as Jewelry and increases the effect of a non-Legendary gem socketed into it. Messerschmidt's Reaver was not available for testing on the PTR and is due with Season 15. Seven of the nine also come as Unique Charms, everything except Leoric's Crown and Messerschmidt's Reaver.

Nine legacy Uniques, four available to all classes and five limited to specific classes, all permanent additions on both the Seasonal and Eternal realms.
Mythic Crafting and Charms Are Changing
In Season 15, the Horadric Cube has a new Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic recipe. It turns a Unique into its Mythic version while keeping the item’s affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking. That gives a good Unique base far more value than it has now.

There are restrictions, though. The recipe costs more than other Mythic crafting options; it cannot be used on an Unmodifiable item, and the result receives a Crafted tag. You can only equip one item with that tag. Mythics created through the Jeweler or obtained from the Blacksmith’s Mythic Cache do not receive this tag.
So in short, there are three ways to make a Mythic Unique, the Horadric Cube Upgrade Direct recipe, the Jeweler's Rune Crafting, and the Blacksmith's Mythic Cache, and only the Horadric Cube route applies the Crafted tag.
Two new Horadric Cube recipes also arrive with the Season of Hell's Legacy:
Affix Value Reroll rerolls all base affixes on gear and Talismans while protecting Greater Affixes, Enchanted affixes, Tempers, and Transfigurations.
Horadric Reroll works on Legendary and higher Charms and Seals, fully randomizing their base affixes without affecting Set Bonuses or Unique and Mythic charm powers.
One PTR idea did not survive to launch. The team had added Unique versions of Iconic Mythics for earlier access, but player feedback said it cheapened them, so Iconic Mythics stay Mythic-quality only. Season 15 also adds a second Blacksmith cache that rolls only Iconic Mythics, at the same cost as the Mythic Uniques cache.
Charms are changing, too. Any Unique Charm can also have a low chance to drop at Mythic quality. There was no crafting recipe or specific target-farming method for Mythic Charms on the PTR, so we will have to see if that remains the case when Season 15 is live.
All of these are big, overall 3.2.1 item changes, so there is no rush to choose one for a build today. Keep interesting Uniques you find, as long as their base values are good, but wait for the launch recipe costs and restrictions before spending rare materials early on.
How Rebirth Works in Season 15
Rebirth lets you move an Eternal character into the Seasonal Realm and reset that character to Level 1. It saves the character's identity and history, but it does not carry seasonal power or progression forward.
Rebirth Keeps
Class
Name and appearance
Normal or Hardcore state
Cosmetic preferences (transmogs, pigments, mounts, pets, portals, and headstones, when the character is saved as part of an ensemble)
Total playtime across Rebirths
Rebirth Resets or Removes
Character level
Skills and Paragon progression
Equipped gear
Personal inventory
Seasonal progress
Your character must have no equipped items and nothing in its personal inventory before you can use the Rebirth feature on it! Move anything important into your Eternal stash first. The game will warn you before items are removed and gives you the option to move them or destroy them, but this is still a step worth handling carefully beforehand.
Rebirth is mostly about continuity. You keep the same character, appearance, cosmetics, and playtime history, but you still begin the season at Level 1 like everyone else.

Waking Nightmares
Waking Nightmares are the new seasonal activity, replacing the Challenge Dungeons and Overland Ambushes from the PTR. Each one is meant to bring back a memory from Diablo’s past, rebuilt for Diablo 4 with updated visuals and encounters, and they come in three different sizes.
The largest Waking Nightmares are multi-level dungeons similar to Capstones, where you face the Prime Evils in some of Diablo’s most iconic battles. You will first encounter them during the seasonal questline before unlocking them as repeatable activities on Torment difficulty. Like other Capstone Dungeons in Diablo 4, these have a fixed difficulty. They also return as pinnacle Capstones at Torment 10 and above, with stronger enemies but better rewards.
The second type is closer to a regular dungeon. These are meant to recreate familiar places or moments such as the Den of Evil from Diablo 2, and appear at fixed locations across Sanctuary.
The smallest Waking Nightmares can suddenly appear in the open world. These are short, one-room encounters featuring either a returning boss like Queen Araneae (from Diablo 3) or waves of classic enemies, including the dagger-wielding Flayers.
The Horadric Post Brings Rewards to Your Account
The Horadric Post is a one-way delivery system for account messages and rewards. Blizzard can use it to send supplies, commemorative items, and other deliveries straight to your account.

Its PTR version was basic, and Blizzard has not said how often it will be used during Season 15. At this moment, it is probably safe to say that we can simply think of it as a new account mailbox rather than a seasonal activity.
Our Early Class and Build Recommendations
The 3.2.1 launch notes are out now, so we finally have real numbers instead of PTR guesses. Nevertheless, patch-day numbers do not equal a final meta, and live endgame testing can change things quite fast in the first week.
Barbarian took a clear nerf in the 3.2.1 patch notes, with its core stat scaling cut and a round of aspect and glyph reductions, after being strong for the past few seasons. Most other classes went the other way. For example, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorcerer all had their core stat scaling increased, and Paladin and Necromancer specifically pulled up from behind. Warlock still looks strong, but a few of its top aspects were adjusted. Keep in mind that these are just our early reads off the patch notes, as we do not currently have any Season 15 builds available on Duskforge
Your best choice before launch is still a class you enjoy enough to play after the first balance update. Pick one main and one backup, then read the 3.2.1 launch patch notes before you lock in your choice!
Our Season 15 starting class breakdown explains the current recommendations in more detail. We will update the hub after the live meta becomes clearer.
Remember that Paladin and Warlock require Lord of Hatred. Spiritborn requires Vessel of Hatred.
What to Do Before Season 15
You do not need a huge preparation checklist, but there are a few small steps that can make launch day easier.
Choose your first class and one backup before the final balance notes arrive.
Pick an Eternal character for Rebirth if you want to keep its name, appearance, cosmetics, and playtime.
Move every equipped and carried item off that character before using Rebirth.
Finish any Season 14 Reliquary rewards you still want before its timer ends.
Remember that your Season 14 War Plans reputation carries to Eternal on September 15 - and for Hardcore, only living characters keep it.
Read the 3.2.1 launch notes for the final Soul Splinter values, class balance, and Mythic crafting details.
Once Season 15 begins, follow the Prime Evil questline far enough to claim your first Splinter of Evil before you focus on your usual leveling route.
Season Journey and Rewards
The Season of Hell's Legacy has nine ranks and a total of 125 objectives, with a larger track than last season. Working through it earns you account-wide progression and cosmetics, including:
Up to 14 Skill Points and up to 42 Paragon points
Up to 10
Resplendent Spark, and more from Mythic Caches5 Mythic Unique Caches
The Dark Wanderbear pet and the Banner of the Three mount trophy
2 Emblems, 2 Titles, and 4 Title Laurels
Crafting and Masterworking materials, currency, Lair Boss Keys, and reward caches
Around 15% of the Seasonal Objectives require the Lord of Hatred expansion, including the objectives needed to finish Rank VIII and to earn every Season Rank reward.
Season Blessings return as well! You earn Smoldering Ashes from objectives and chapter rewards, then spend them on five Urns that improve your drops for Curiosities, Reclamation, Masterworking, Glyphs, and Ancestral Whispers.
In terms of cosmetic items, the free Battle Pass Reliquary comes with the Eidolon Mount, its Eidolon's Barding armor, and the Ancient Town Portal. But that is not all, because for the first time, the Armor Reliquary also includes armor sets that are specifically tailored to each class. The Deluxe Battle Pass bundle costs 2,800 Platinum and adds the Archangel of Justice set, the Lordling of Terror pet, and Wings of Justice.
What Stays After Season 15
Soul Splinters (the gems) are seasonal, confirmed in-game as Seasonal Items. Legacy Uniques are permanent additions available across Diablo 4. Rebirth, the Mythic crafting changes, the new Charms, and the Horadric Post are base 3.2.1 features, so they stay after the season on both realms.
