Getting there is not that easy, and it might take you quite some time, depending on your luck. You will need to collect all three Splinters of Evil, find ten of Deckard Cain's missing journals, and craft a special coin to open a portal.
We put together all the steps you need to go through to unlock the Echo of Tristram and get your hands on the
Hellfire Torch, and more!
Find All Ten Deckard Cain Journals
First, you will need to unlock Tristram itself. After completing the tavern introduction in Tarsarak, ten of Deckard Cain's journals become available across Sanctuary. They are hidden in small, open satchels containing scrolls.

Here are all the journals you can find:
Gea Kul, Kurast Docks

Kehjistan, The Imperial Library

Kehjistan Desert, Tarsarak

Hawezar, Wejinhani

Fractured Peaks, Lorath's Cabin

Dry Steppes, Hidden Overlook

Scosglen, Marowen

Scosglen, Braestaig

Scosglen, Under the Fat Goose Inn

Fractured Peaks, Yelesna

Once you have collected all ten journals, you unlock a quest called "Deckard"s Journey". Go back to the Library and talk to Deckard. He will unlock Deckard's Memory portal inside the Imperial Library in Caldeum, right next to the waypoint. This takes you to the original Diablo version of Tristram, and the portal remains available afterward. You can pretty much come back any time you want.
Craft Wirt's Lucky Coins
Now that you have access to Tristram, it is time to put your Splinters of Evil to use. We detailed the best way to get Splinters of Evil in another article, so check it out if you struggle to get one of them! Head to the Horadric Cube in Temis, and combine the following items:
1
Splinter of Destruction1
Splinter of Hatred1
Splinter of Terror
This unlocks a hidden recipe that creates Wirt's Lucky Coins.

Just like the hidden Diablo 2 Runeword recipes, you will not see this one in the Cube until you have placed the correct materials inside.
Open the Echo of Tristram Portal
With your coin ready, head back to Tristram through the portal in the Library. In Tristram, you will find multiple NPCs, and a fountain in the southeastern part of town.

Interact with it and offer Wirt's Lucky Coins. The fountain will turn red, and a portal to the Echo of Tristram will appear. Each use requires another coin, so you will need to collect the three Splinters again if you want to repeat the process. This also means that you need to be very careful when you enter the portal. The game tends to spawn an exit portal right near the entrance to the Echo of Tristram, and if you click a bit too fast, it will send you right back out, and you will have lost your Coin before the fight even started.
Defeat Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto
Yes. All three, at the same time. Once you are inside the Echo of Tristram, head toward the center of the arena to begin the encounter. You will face all three Prime Evils at once, so expect a considerably more challenging fight than their individual Capstone ones. Defeating the Prime Evil Council gives you a chance to obtain some really good rewards, including Mythic items, the Standard of Heroes, and the
Hellfire Torch Mythic Unique Charm. The Standard of Heroes is a quest item, but right now no one has found out what it was really used for, so keep that one in your Stash somewhere. The Hellfire Torch is a pretty good charm to get. There is also a loot cooldown between kills, so you have to wait around 15 minutes before you can do another run. And if you leave the Echo of Tristram, you need to craft another coin to come back.
Tristram Hides Other Secrets
When it comes to Tristram itself, the location does stay open forever. No need to go back to collecting journals if you leave. The area has a few vendors and two specific side quests as well. Both of them unlock achievements, and they are pretty fast to complete.
The first quest can be started by interacting with a dead body at the top left of Tristram. You will then have to talk to every NPC in town and go fight the Butcher. Fighting him in his Lair boss form is enough to complete the quest.

The second quest is called "Ogden's Sign". Ogden is located near the Fountain. Talk to him to unlock the quest, and then repeat the same process as for the Butcher. You need to talk to every NPC in town to get the achievement, and then you have to head to Diablo's Capstone, The Labyrinth. Inside that capstone, clean every room until you find a demon that is not attacking you, and talk to him. He will tell you to go fight some other mobs in another room. It is another square-shaped room with a chest in the middle now. Defeat the enemies and pick up Ogden's banner. You can either go back to the talking demon and kill him, or just teleport back to Tristram to hand in the banner to Ogden directly in order to complete the quest.
Now, why should you do these insignificant quests, you might ask? Well, because Ogden has a pretty cool reward for you if you do. He drops a
Harlequin Crest, and if you are lucky, it can even have Greater Affixes on it. If you played through the first Diablo game, this will most likely make you smile. And since you unlocked the zone, you might as well do these 2 nice, short, and easy quests to complete for a Mythic item and a couple of achievements.
