Diablo 4 Amazon Class Guide

Diablo 4 Amazon in red and gold armor and a winged helmet thrusting a lightning-charged javelin at fish-like sea demons on a rocky Skovos shore

The Amazon is coming to Diablo 4 in the first half of 2027 as a Class Pack, and she will be the ninth class in the game. Blizzard revealed her at BlizzCon 2026 with four archetypes, a new weapon type in the Javelin, and a female-only design rooted in her lore. We keep this guide updated as Blizzard shares more.

Diablo 4 Amazon Release Date and Class Pack

The Amazon launches in the first half of 2027. Blizzard has not given a proper date yet, and says Class Pack and purchase details will come next year, closer to release.

This is the first time Diablo 4 adds a class outside an expansion. The Spiritborn came with Vessel of Hatred, and the Paladin and Warlock came with Lord of Hatred. Blizzard has also said no more Diablo 4 expansions are planned, so the Amazon is the next big piece of the game's roadmap, in addition to the regular seasons.

The closest precedent is the Necromancer pack in Diablo 3. It cost around 15 euros and bundled the class with cosmetics, extra stash space, and character slots. Blizzard has not said the Amazon pack will follow that model.

Regarding timing, Season 15 launched on September 15, 2026, and does not include the Amazon. If seasons keep their usual rhythm, the first half of 2027 would fit a Season 17 or Season 18 launch.

The Amazon's Three Design Pillars

Diablo 4 Amazon character model

Blizzard built the Amazon on three pillars, and every archetype draws from all three.

  • Battle expertise. She is a disciplined, highly trained soldier first. Panel coverage set her apart from the scrappy Rogue, the raging Barbarian, and the faith-driven Paladin.

  • Unrivaled athleticism. Designers described her as an Olympic-level athlete, and that idea shaped her character model and animations.

  • Mythical magic. She calls on her bond with her Amazon sisters and her Askari ancestors when she needs magical aid.

Our current magic classes, the Sorcerer and the Warlock, cast spells as their main way of fighting. The Amazon uses magic to support her weapons instead, for example by imbuing a javelin with lightning or arrows with fire. Blizzard says the archetypes shape everything, her appearance and animations, as well as the names of her skills.

The Amazon has four archetypes, each with its own weapon, range, and role.

The Valkyrie skill

Diablo 4 Amazon archetypes concept art showing the Champion with sword and shield, the Skirmisher with a lightning javelin, the Ranger with a flaming bow, and the Commander with a tall spear

Champion

The Champion is a sword-and-shield melee fighter who buffs both herself and her allies. The game team framed her as a gladiator who leads the charge and inspires the people around her. She was described with cold magic augmentation. Paladin players who like a shield and group buffs should keep an eye on this one.

Skirmisher

The Skirmisher is the modern Javazon. She is an agile fighter who weaves in and out of combat with the Javelin, looking for openings. Concept art shows her with a shield and a javelin wrapped in lightning. In terms of speed and agility, she is the closest match to the Spiritborn.

Ranger

The Ranger is a precision tactical archer who snipes and cuts down enemies from a distance with magical piercing arrows. Fire was named as her element. The Blizzcon panel also mentions artillery in the form of ballistae. The Rogue deals damage across an entire pack. In comparison, the Ranger is more of a marksman.

Commander

The Commander is a general who dominates the field with phalanxes of Valkyries at her call. She is described as strong on her own and far stronger fighting beside her sisters. Blizzard kept the most details back on this archetype, so it is the one we expect to change the most once skills are revealed. Necromancer minion fans have a new option to watch here.

Blizzard has not confirmed if the archetypes are locked specializations or simply branches of one skill tree that we can mix.

Amazon Weapons and Damage Types

The Javelin is the biggest reveal. It is an entirely new weapon type for Diablo 4, and current coverage says the Amazon is the only class that can wield it. This means new base items and, most likely, new Uniques and Aspects built around it. Using a javelin is not required though, since the Champion and Ranger fight with other weapons.

  • Javelin. New to Diablo 4 and used by the Skirmisher archetype. The Commander also holds one in her concept art.

  • Bow. Returns from Diablo 2 as the Ranger's weapon. The Rogue already uses bows in Diablo 4, so the Amazon is the second bow user.

  • Sword and shield. The Champion's kit, and the Skirmisher also carries a shield in her art.

The Amazon reportedly deals Physical, Poison, Cold, Fire and Lightning damage depending on the build. Cold, Lightning and Fire map to the Champion, Skirmisher and Ranger. Poison has not been tied to an archetype yet. In Diablo 2, poison came from javelins, so the Skirmisher is our best guess.

Amazon Lore, Skovos and the Askari

The Amazon comes from Skovos, the island homeland of the Askari that Lord of Hatred took us to. We have been walking through her territory for months. The expansion introduced Temis, more of the region's history, and an active Amazon presence in the story, with Skovos ruled by the Amazon Queen and the Oracle Queen.

Many players expected her to launch with Lord of Hatred for exactly that reason. Instead, we got the Paladin and the Warlock, and we fought side-by-side with the people of Skovos rather than as one of them. Blizzard hinted that the team needed more time to get her right.

Her magic comes from her mystical bond with her Amazon sisters and her Askari ancestors. That bond is also the reason for the gender lock. The Amazon can only be created as a female character, which makes her the first gender-locked class in Diablo 4. Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 attached every class to a fixed gender, so this is a return to an older series rule for this one class.

From Diablo 2 to Diablo 4, What Could Carry Over

Diablo 2 Resurrected Amazon

Blizzard describes the Amazon as a reimagining for Diablo 4 rather than a direct copy. Three of her four archetypes have clear counterparts in Diablo 2. The table below compares them with her old skill trees, based on our read.

Iconic Diablo 2 skills

Closest Diablo 4 archetype

Javelin and Spear

Lightning Fury, Charged Strike, Poison Javelin, Plague Javelin

Skirmisher

Bow and Crossbow

Ranger

Passive and Magic

Valkyrie, Decoy, Dodge, Avoid, Evade, Critical Strike

Commander, plus the athletic feel of the whole class

No equivalent

Champion, sword-and-shield melee with group buffs

The Champion is the real newcomer. Diablo 2's Amazon could equip a shield, but she never had a build designed around frontline melee and buffing allies. The Commander is the biggest upgrade, turning a single Valkyrie into whole phalanxes. Skill names are not confirmed for Diablo 4, so none of the Diablo 2 skill names above are guaranteed to return.

Where the Amazon Fits in the Diablo 4 Classes

The Amazon covers melee, ranged, and summoner play inside one class, which few Diablo 4 classes do. Until we see skills, the easiest way to picture her is next to the classes we already play.
