Diablo 4 Paragon Guide: How Many Points and Boards Can You Have?

Once you have your active abilities in place and have hit the character level cap of 70, Paragon progression empowers your character in less visible ways, offering stat-point gains, offensive and defensive bonuses, and more passive abilities.
Paragon progression caps at 342 for players who own both expansions, and it adheres to the familiar process of completing activities across Sanctuary to gain experience: simply running around doing your chosen type of demon-murder will continue to increase your Paragon level. These levels are distributed as points that you assign on your character's Paragon boards.
Additionally, any Paragon progression you make in the Seasonal or the Eternal realm adds to your cumulative Paragon pool in the Eternal realm. Because that 342-point cap takes a vast amount of experience, this allows players who cannot make it to that point during a Season to still eventually experience it on their Eternal realm characters.
Paragon Boards
Once you hit the character level cap of 70, class-specific Paragon boards, shown in a new tab on your Character menu, will immediately become available. Paragon progression earns you points to spend on these boards. Each board is named for the Legendary ability it offers.
Your initial Paragon board is a simple starter board with no Legendary node and only one connection point. Each class has nine available boards, and you can attach four of them, one at a time as you progress, for a maximum of five Paragon boards.
You can rotate a board before locking it into place, so your path is completely customizable.
The Paragon starter board and the attached normal board are shown here within the Abilities section of the Character menu.

Anatomy of a Paragon Board
Nodes on the Paragon Board, where you assign your Paragon Points, follow the familiar rarity system used to distinguish equipment types: Normal, Rare, and Legendary.
Normal | These nodes offer straightforward five-point stat increases to your Dexterity, Intelligence, Strength, and Willpower. You can see which stat each node increases by its icon on the board. |
Magic | Blue magic nodes offer a greater variety of effects, typically a seven-point stat increase or a small percentage increase to an offensive or defensive sub-stat. |
Rare | Designated by their yellow background, Rare nodes offer a 10-point stat bonus and an increase to a specific type of offense. Rare nodes within range of a socketed Glyph also gain an additional offensive bonus once a specific stat-point threshold is reached. |
Legendary | These nodes are what give each board its name and offer a new, significant passive ability that increases the damage of a particular ability or type. Legendary nodes also determine the board's "theme," expressed in its Magic and Rare Nodes. |
Glyph Sockets | Socket slots hold Glyphs, which offer another way to customize your build; however, Glyphs are also physical items that you pick up in game. You can read much more about Glyphs in our guide. |
Gates | These nodes are where you connect boards. Points assigned to these nodes will prompt you to select your next Paragon board. Except for the starter board, each board has four gates. |
Using Paragon Points
You attach one board at a time as you create a path to the next gate by assigning points to nodes along the way. You must linearly assign points, with each assigned point unlocking the nodes directly touching the one you have assigned.
The screenshot below shows four boards attached in a large square. You can see the pathing across the boards, which allowed the player to select multiple Legendary nodes and access all of the Glyph sockets without unnecessary detours.

Points can easily be unspent, and you can also reset all your Paragon boards by clicking on Refund All at the bottom. You may also revisit earlier boards even after you have assigned all five.
Paragon Board Tips
Board arrangement is crucial! Consider ahead of time what offensive and defensive bonuses you want to focus on before starting to spend your points. While you can easily reclaim individual points or even reset your entire Paragon progression, planning ahead will spare you a headache later.
Do not neglect stat point increases. Glyph bonuses scale with stats within their radius, and certain Rare nodes offer greater scaling once you reach a particular stat threshold.
It can be efficient to map your boards in a square fashion, as shown above. This enables you to reach different corners of boards more efficiently, but not every build needs this set-up.
Paragon progression slows with your level, so it starts to feel like a grind after you reach 200. Players find Infernal Hordes and the Helltide to be rich sources of Paragon experience points, but incorporating those activities into War Plans can offer you additional rewards.
