Diablo 4 is changing Mythic crafting again after Season 15 PTR feedback

Iconic Mythics are staying Mythic-only, and a new Blacksmith cache lets you target them directly.

Blizzard made a few important changes to Mythic crafting since the Diablo 4 Season 15 PTR, and some of them came from a lot of player feedback. Overall, the goal they had with the Mythic changes was to make these less dependent on pure luck. But Blizzard has also backed away from one of its bigger PTR changes, deciding that some of the game's rarest items should stay rare. So less dependent on luck, but also not that easy to obtain either, because otherwise, where is the fun?

We went through everything, and here is what you need to know about Mythic crafting in Season of Hell's Legacy!

You Can Now Turn a Unique Directly Into a Mythic

The biggest part of the Mythic crafting overhaul is still the Horadric Cube's "Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic" recipe. This one lets you take a Unique and turn it directly into its Mythic version without rerolling everything in the process. Got a Tibault's Will with the exact affixes you wanted, perfect Tempering, and carefully tuned Masterworking? The Mythic version keeps all of it.

That is a pretty significant change from systems where crafting a Mythic means gambling for the item you want.

The issue is that the Cube recipe is more expensive than the other Mythic crafting options, and you cannot use it on an Unmodifiable item. So do not Transfigure the Unique you are planning to upgrade and then wonder where your crafting option went.

The New Crafted Tag Limits

There is one important restriction on the direct Cube upgrade. Mythic Uniques created through the Cube recipe receive a Crafted tag, and you can only equip one Mythic with that tag.

However, Mythics made through the other crafting methods do not receive the Crafted tag.

That means you can still equip multiple Mythics as long as you are mixing your direct Cube-crafted item with Mythics obtained through the Jeweler, Blacksmith, or normal drops. This means that you should probably keep your crafted option open for your most important Mythic in your build. Do not waste it on an item that is only optional to wear.

The Blacksmith Now Has Two Mythic Caches

This is one of the biggest changes. During testing, Blizzard changed the Blacksmith's Mythic Unique cache so that it could give you either a class-appropriate Mythic Unique or an Iconic Mythic. Players were not particularly happy about losing the more "streamlined" way to specifically get Iconic Mythics.

For the live season, Blizzard has therefore added a second Blacksmith cache specifically for Iconic Mythics. The two options are:

  • Mythic Unique Cache: rolls for Mythic Uniques usable by your class

  • Iconic Mythic Cache: rolls specifically for Iconic Mythics

Both cost the same, but at least you have a much more straightforward way to decide what kind of Mythic you are chasing.

This is from Season 15 PTR, so it is missing the second Blacksmith cache. It only shows the normal Mythic cache, not the Iconic-specific one.

Iconic Mythics Are Staying Rare

This is another big reversal from the PTR, since Blizzard originally introduced regular Unique versions of the Iconic Mythics so you could access their build-defining powers earlier in your progression.

The idea made sense because, yes, most of the time a build relies on an Iconic Mythic effect, so having a weaker Unique version would let you start building around it before eventually finding the real Mythic version of that item. But the problem is that it ended up feeling like this came at the cost of what made Iconic Mythics special.

And Blizzard agreed, so now Iconic Mythics will remain Mythic-quality only in Season 15. No Unique versions of those, and it is probably for the best!

The Jeweler Still Offers Random Class Mythics

The Jeweler also still has his Rune Crafting recipe. You can spend Resplendent Sparks and Runes to choose a gear slot, such as a Ring or 1-Handed Weapon, and receive a random class-specific Mythic Unique from that slot. Unlike the direct Cube upgrade, these Mythics do not receive the Crafted tag.

The Blacksmith's Mythic caches also do not receive the tag, so you have multiple ways to build a collection of Mythics without running into the one-Crafted-item restriction.

Mythic Charms Are Still Part of the System

Unique Charms have a small chance to drop as Mythic Unique Charms, with their properties rolling at maximum value and their Unique effects receiving a significant boost. There is no dedicated crafting recipe for these, though, so you will have to get lucky when a Unique Charm drops.

So basically, in Season 15, the direct Cube upgrade makes it much easier to turn a great Unique into the exact Mythic you want, and you still have the Blacksmith that now gives you two options for targeting either regular class-appropriate Mythics or Iconic Mythics, and the Jeweler if you need something specific to an item slot.

In a way, this gives you not only more options for crafting Mythics, but also more control over it, without completely removing the grind.
