Diablo 4 Season 16 will not rework Infernal Hordes or the Pit after all

A mistake in Blizzard's PTR announcement raised hopes for changes that are not really planned.

Someone at Blizzard made a tiny mistake.

If you checked out the official PTR post from Blizzard a few days ago, you probably noticed that it said the following:

The purpose of the PTR is to test updates and features before the launch of the next season, where we’ll be focusing on significant additions to the War Plans system for both Eternal and Seasonal play, reworked Infernal Hordes, Pit, and Lair Boss activities, and powerful new Horadric Items that create fresh synergies between your equipped gear and Talisman system.

And the part mentioning "reworked Infernal Hordes, Pit, and Lair Boss activities" raised a lot of questions. There was no additional information, no hint on what exactly was changing. And once the PTR went live, nothing in-game seemed any different about these activities.

Well... it turns out it was a small written mistake. Not a big deal, it can happen.

However, a lot of players were really looking forward to some of these changes, especially when it comes to Infernal Hordes. We are probably all waiting to see some changes to that content in the future.

But it will not be for Season 16.

Blizzard Confirms the Reworks Were a Mistake

Under a Reddit post that was asking about these changes, Community manager Marcooose eventually responded to one of the discussions, confirming that the wording in the blog was an error and that there had been no Infernal Hordes or Pit rework planned.

Blizzard has since removed that wording from the official Season 16 PTR announcement as well, so if you go back to it, you will not see any mention of Infernal Hordes or Pit anymore.

The original announcement also mentioned Lair Boss activities, but this has also been removed from the official post.

Players Wanted Changes to Infernal Hordes

The frustration is understandable. Infernal Hordes remains one of Diablo 4's endgame activities that feel like the long runs are not worth the rewards compared with other ways to farm equipment and materials.

A rework could have been an opportunity to make the activity faster, improve its rewards, or give players more reasons to run it.

So a lot of players were really hyped about some changes. Sadly, you will have to be patient. The fact that it is not coming for Season 16 does not mean Blizzard is not thinking about it for the future.

Season 16 still introduces changes to War Plans, including new ways to influence the activities and rewards that appear. You can also test new Horadric Items and the Tyrael's Boons progression system. There is still plenty to do in Season 16.
