Your spare Diablo 4 Mythic amulet could be hiding a max-rank Codex upgrade
One more use before the salvage hammer. Just keep an eye on those Kullean Prisms.
Finding a Mythic Unique amulet in Diablo 4 that your build does not need is usually a little disappointing. But before you recycle or get rid of it, there is a strange way to turn it into a guaranteed Codex upgrade.
There is a catch, of course. You will need Kullean Tuning Prisms for this, and potentially quite a few of them. As this is the end of a season, however, why not make use of all that currency you farmed, right?
The Strange Icon on a Mythic Unique
Inspiration for this article came from a post on the Diablo 4 subreddit by user Present_Entrance_233, who noticed that a Mythic Locran's Talisman in their stash had the icon for an available Codex of Power upgrade.
That was a little unusual, because Unique items do not normally give you any upgrade to Aspects when salvaged. This amulet, however, had received an extra Legendary Aspect through Horadric Cube Transfiguration with a Kullean Tuning Prism.
After salvaging the Locran's Talisman to test what would happen, the player realized that the added Aspect power improved its respective maximum rank in the Codex.
How The Cube Trick Works
Utility aspects can be imprinted onto a modifiable amulet using a Kullean Tuning Prism, and if you get one rolled at max value (a Mythic amulet guarantees that max roll), you can then salvage the amulet and your Codex of Power picks up the maxed version of that aspect. So instead of hoping to find a perfectly rolled aspect out in the world of Sanctuary, you basically craft one and add it directly to your Codex.
Mythic Uniques receive maximum rolls on anything added through Enchanting, Tempering, or Transfiguration. This gives you a rather expensive way to finish a missing Utility Aspect in Diablo 4:
Place a Mythic Unique amulet into the Horadric Cube (has to be Mythic so the power roll is maxed out).
Transfigure it with a Kullean Tuning Prism.
Keep going until it gains the Utility Aspect you want.
Check for the Codex upgrade icon, then salvage the amulet.
Kullean Tuning Prisms only work on amulets and make use of the Utility Aspect pool, so this cannot max every Aspect in your build, but only a selected few.
It is also not a exactly budget-friendly farming method, as Tuning Prisms (especially the Kullean ones) are valuable and very rare, and every failed roll costs another one. So make sure you are aware of the cost first, before deciding to use a good Mythic on this method.
The cheaper route most veteran Diablo 4 players suggest instead is to just upgrade your spare ancestral rares to legendary in the Cube to collect aspects, or grab utility aspect caches from the mercenary vendor, since both are much easier on your materials.
Nevertheless, it is an interesting little interaction to remember in case there is one stubborn Utility Aspect that refuses to drop for you. Just make sure the Codex icon is there before your Mythic meets the salvage hammer, and only do it if you have enough Prisms to spare, or are not too fussed about spending the few you have before the end of the season.
