Diablo 4 Rogues have found the culprit behind their random death
Your Shadow Clone might have turned into a deadly liability, even against training dummies.

We Rogue players always have an issue, don't we? When we are not stuck with infinite damage bugs, we end up with Shadow Clones that decide to... well... go rogue and attack their own owners. Because yes, if you play with
Shadow Clone during Season 15 in Diablo 4, you might have had moments where you thought, "wait, what just killed me?", and the answer is pretty much your own clone.
Multiple reports on Reddit and the official Blizzard forum during the last couple of weeks have been about Rogue players experiencing similar bugs when playing with
Shadow Clone.
What Is the Problem Exactly?
It is still unclear what exactly is causing problems, but the issue is definitely related to
Shadow Clone and the
Aspect of Imitated Imbuement. If you have a Dance of Knife or Penetrating Shot build that uses both, you might have experienced moments where you died despite there being no enemies in sight, and it is highly likely that it was your own clone's fault.
This is what the aspect technically does:

Your Clone should just mimic the imbuements you are using. There is nothing on the aspect itself that points toward it suddenly inflicting damage to the player. And when it comes to
Shadow Clone, none of the upgrades should trigger self-damage either, so it is hard to explain what exactly causes it to bug out.
The problem is that builds such as Poison Dance of Knives or Poison Penetrating Shot do rely on this Aspect and the Clones, so removing one of them essentially also removes a lot of your damage.
We have seen reports saying that the
Spellbound Steel Charm set might be the actual trigger for the bug, so if you have this problem and you have this set equipped, try swapping for another set such as
Legacy of the Sightless. We tried with Sightless, and the Clones seem to attack normally with that one.
Mercenaries Can Reflect Damage as Well
Rogue Clones are not the only ones who reflect damage to the player. Hired Mercenaries' attacks often tend to attack their owners as well, and we have even seen reports of
Splinter of Terror fire paths killing the player who uses the Splinter.
It is definitely not an isolated problem, and a few Hardcore characters sadly died from these types of issues.
Blizzard has not answered yet, and there is no obvious fix outside of not picking up your mercenaries and playing a build that does not involve
Shadow Clone or
Aspect of Imitated Imbuement.
Hopefully they can fix that for next season, and we Rogues can stop getting shot by our own clones...
